By Sarah Singh
today my love, i wish to see you
so forgive me, let me look at the sky,
ah yes, the clouds are staying true,
they are shifting with a sigh
in the clefts of the sunlight i can make out your face,
in the shadows i can see your jaw,
in the wispy clouds your curls i can trace,
the familiar expression i always saw
then the wind changes and the sky darkens
i watch your expression change, my love
your brow furrows and your eyes starken-
a dark veil of memory passes above
for though your eyes gaze listlessly down
and you heroically purse up your lips
the disturbance in your spirited frown
is mirrored in the stormy eclipse
back on the ground, the sway of trees around me,
i am lashed by your tears,
gasping against the torrent, i strain my eyes and see,
the exposed wreckage of your fears
my tears mixing with yours
i kiss my hands to the deafening sky
your pain was never mine to heal
nonetheless i will still try
for what, my love, do i have to offer you,
except a worthless wish on a star?
it seems you were never mine to comfort,
only to unselfishly bless from afar
