INSOMNIA

By Samantha Barclay

Slipping confusion wrapped in blurred waking

Clutching to fuzziness

That steals away

Disastrous, illicit clarity consuming

Nightmare claws through my heart

Soul fallen. Frustration riots

Black Market trade

Intrusion

Cruel lists

Red faced memories

Floods of worries

Crash the mental fortress

Bat silent screaming

Internally deafening the moth

Unwelcome awareness to a single rain drop

A feather brushing the window pane.

A ghost standing in the dark

A straight-jacket cry

Bones bent

Blood stiffens

Longing for sinking back

Please fall!

A knife in the heart

Pushed down the well

Visions of death Loved ones pain

I'm...

With the spiders

With the blackness

With my brain

Mind clawing

I'm

Alone

Adrift

Reaching for the key

The sail

A hand...

A....

Grusome fingers curl round my foot

The monsters under my bed

Pets compared with my thoughts

Mined health, chipped away

Exchanged for groaning aching.

A bird sings

The sky lightens

Aeons of torture endured

No hope for rest

Trawl to the kettle

Puffy

Fuzzy

Adrenaline ridden disorder

I'm captured

The door opens

'Morning my sweethearts, what do you want for breakfast?'
